History
Life in Pencil launched in 2009 as the joint venture of Anne and Elizabeth, pen pals and graduate school friends who shared a mutual love of writing and a fascination with how we humans grow and change. Bringing these interests together, they co-created the concept of “life in pencil” to capture life’s ever-evolving nature, using their personal experience and professional backgrounds as counselors to illuminate the complex process of how we “rewrite” our lives.
Embodying the very essence of “life in pencil,” the site took a new course when Anne left the partnership two years later to pursue her passion for writing young adult literature and women’s/adolescent psychology. Elizabeth “keeps the fires burning,” continuing to expand and explore what it means to live life “in pencil,” drawing on her love of memoir and narrative nonfiction. She writes about her attempts to live mindfully in the present and fully inhabit her life, live more simply, explore her purpose and spiritual path, and seek the extraordinary in the ordinary.
